Vail Health Oncology Pharmacist in Vail, Colorado


  • Provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care services to patients via collaboration with prescribing physicians and patients. Ensure safety remains a top priority in all aspects of workflow.


    1. Responsible for the assigned Infusion pharmacy center per State Board of Pharmacy regulations for Colorado as the consultant pharmacist.

    2. Interprets medication orders and accurately transcribes them into the electronic medical record. Builds care plans as needed. Monitors drug therapy regimens to evaluate medication selection, medication dosing, and makes recommendations for therapy alterations as needed. This can involve interpreting lab data and developing medication use evaluations (MUEs) for new formulary additions.

    3. Directs and supervises pharmacy technician(s) and ensures that day to day operations of the pharmacy are compliant with State, Colorado Board of Pharmacy, Federal, and regulatory rules and regulations.

    4. Provides education to patients and families related to their pharmaceutical care.

    5. Monitors and oversees inventory system. Ensures charges are entered and reconciled for financial and revenue integrity.

    6. Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile and chemotherapeutic products, as needed in the absence of a pharmacy technician.

    7. Detects and reports adverse drug reactions and medication errors according to the approved method and in alignment with Vail Health’s Just Culture.

    8. Assists the Pharmacy Manager with projects, compliance auditing, committee work, policy review, charge master updates, IV pump library updates, and personnel decisions, including hiring, disciplinary actions, and evaluations, as assigned.

    9. Promotes an atmosphere of warmth, compassion, and understanding while demonstrating empathy and the ability to relate to families in crisis.

    10. Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.

    11. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.


  • Experience:

    • 2 years of experience in the healthcare industry required. Previous experience with a changing workload, schedule and priorities is preferred.
  • Experience working with oncology patients required.

  • License(s):

    • State of Colorado Registered Pharmacist license required.
  • Certification(s):

    • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) preferred.
  • Computer / Typing:

    • Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

  • Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

  • Education:

    • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D) preferred
