Providence Health & Services Clinical Informatics Pharmacist: Inpatient in Spokane, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Clinical Informatics Pharmacist - Inpatient to work from our location in Spokane, WA. This position is considered to be a hybrid role, working a combination of in office and remote.

We are seeking a Clinical Informatics Pharmacist - Inpatient to:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert who will participate in the design, support, and maintenance of Willow Ambulatory and integrated 3rd party applications as part of a system team.

  • Participate in a collaborative effort with key contributors and other informatics pharmacists, to design and develop effective pharmacy workflow, clinical decision support, and operational processes and system functions to drive optimal outcomes and efficiencies

  • Support leadership decision making by data gathering and conducting sophisticated analysis

  • Implement change to align with patient safety, strategic and regulatory goals

  • Serve as an effective communicator for varying audiences from clinicians to executive leadership and vendors

  • Work independently to manage pharmacy modules and components of the EHR, clinical decision support and pharmacy-specific information systems associated with medication use

  • Participate in a collaborative effort with key contributors and other informatics pharmacists, to design and develop effective pharmacy workflow, operational processes and system functions to drive optimal outcomes and efficiencies

  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key contributors, which include system and operational leadership, front line staff, governance groups, multi-disciplinary staff, and vendors

  • Collaborate to prioritize demands, set appropriate expectations, establish appropriate metrics and targets, and manage change implementation

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Provides technical and application expertise and recommends processes and/or procedures for enhancements, and modifications to improve existing pharmacy system

  • Responds to improvement needs in the functional operation of the pharmacy computer systems.

  • Collaborates and documents system design and workflow processes of system needs for clinical management, staff, and providers

  • Functions as a liaison between these stakeholders and the system build teams

  • Provides technical and application expertise to design, analyze, and optimize clinical information systems

  • Ensures system design achieves Health System objectives of standardization, integration, and efficiency and supports compliance with policies and procedures, legal and regulatory requirements

  • Shares knowledge and expertise with team members

  • Works collaboratively with the education team to develop change communication and training materials

  • Obtains approval where required

  • Performs routine maintenance; assists with testing updates and new releases prior to production use

  • Demonstrates compliance with all system and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with annual safety and competency testing

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze information gathered by investigation, and report findings and recommendations

  • Effective written communication skills as appropriate for the needs of the audience

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills

  • Ability to build strong customer relationships

  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines

  • Knowledge of the use of health information technology to improve the medication use process (e.g. electronic medical records, disease registries, websites, IVR)

  • Familiarity with systems and applications

  • Advanced computer hardware and software expertise


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy

  • 3 years of related experience

  • Current License as a Registered Pharmacist where assigned

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • PHD in Pharmacy or a combination of equivalent education / experience

  • Residency training in pharmacy practice, drug information or pharmacy administration or a combination of equivalent education / experience

  • Technology related certification
