As part of the Scripps Health pharmacy team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide a broad range of clinical services at our sites and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to deliver high-quality, efficient services to patients and staff. The Clinical Pharmacist I will work in the main pharmacy at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, serving central and downtown San Diego. With a Level I Trauma Center, the team at Mercy San Diego thrives in a fast-paced environment and prides itself in its efficiency and teamwork.

To be successful, the Clinical Pharmacist will be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and will be knowledgeable with inpatient care. The Clinical Pharmacist reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost. Documents the care provided to patients. Supervises the drug distribution operation: responsible for assuring safe and effective alternatives as appropriate. Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses and patients regarding drug therapy. Contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve the cost-effectiveness of drug therapy. Demonstrates ability to provide age-specific patient care as established for area and job title. Works variable shifts, including evenings and weekends as staffing needs require. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies and perform activities as outlined in Pharmacist Authorities policy. Primarily operation focused centrally based; participates in direct patient care as clinical competencies are approved and on approved shifts.

This is a full time, varied shift position (primarily days and evenings with occasional nights), at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego in Hillcrest.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • PGY1 residency or 3 years' experience in relevant practice area.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree:.

Required Certification/Registration:

  • California Pharmacist License
  • AHA BLS for the health care provider and ACLS certifications required prior to being trained to respond to codes.
