The Clinical Pharmacist demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills to deliver appropriate, safe, efficient, effective, and cost effective pharmaceutical care in the scope of their particular assignment. This position is responsible for the care of patients as well as the development of effective, professional relationships within the multidisciplinary team.

The Clinical Pharmacist role is essential to the patient care. The Clinical Pharmacist is valued for applying knowledge and skills to deliver appropriate, safe, efficient, effective and cost-effective pharmaceutical care in the scope of their assignment. The Clinical Pharmacist is instrumental in the care of patients, as well as the development of effective, professional relationships within the multidisciplinary team. Acting as a resource to other staff members, the Clinical Pharmacist is an esteemed and valued clinical provider of patient care.

A clinical pharmacist position in cardiology is available at Intermountain Medical Center. The clinical pharmacist will provide inpatient pharmaceutical care services for a wide variety of cardiology specialties including pulmonary hypertension, cardiothoracic surgery, acute coronary syndrome, advanced heart failure, transplant and mechanical circulatory support. Responsibilities include direct patient care, medication therapy consultations, protocol development, medication reconciliation, discharge counseling, and code participation. Serve as a member of the cardiology team by participating in group meetings, staff development programs, projects, service coverage, and journal clubs. Participation in departmental and interdisciplinary committees to support the organization's efforts for performance improvement to improve patient safety, therapeutic outcomes, and cost savings is required. Serve as a medication therapy resource for other clinical pharmacists, pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, pharmacy interns, physicians, medical residents, nurses, and patients. Opportunities for collaborative clinical research are available and encouraged. Precepting pharmacy residents and students on clinical rotations is required. Adjunct clinical faculty appointments at two colleges of pharmacy are available. This position will work collaboratively with other pharmacy staff and report to the clinical coordinator of the cardiology team.

Shift Details: 40 hours a week. Shifts alternate between days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification

  • Current license as a Pharmacist by state in which one practices.

  • Controlled substance license.

  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency with experience in cardiology.

  • Completion of a specialty residency training program in cardiology and/or critical care.

  • Pharmacy experience in cardiology.

  • Board Certification (BCCP, BCPS, BCCCP etc.)

  • Added Qualifications in Cardiology Pharmacotherapy

Physical Requirements:

This position will support Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Thoracic ICU, and two acute care cardiology floors.
