Summary

Is a clinical resource person that supports the activities of the pharmacy department and the medical center. Develops a clinical

expertise or practice that supports our patients and their needs. Participates in developing clinical programs, DUE's, and special

projects. Instructs and precepts students as assigned. Is a drug information resource.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports relationships between pharmacy clinical services, nursing services, laboratory services, and medical staff.

  • Acts as a liaison between nursing services, pharmacy services, and medical staff in developing, implementing, and maintaining

  • clinical pharmacy programs.

  • Attends and participates in Committee Meetings where an advanced knowledge of clinical therapeutics is desirable.

  • Acts as a clinical resource person for professional staff members.

  • Establishes and maintains a clinical expertise or practice that supports the needs of St. Rita's Medical Center patients.

  • Participates in staff development programs, continuing education programs, newsletter preparation, and research/institutional

  • programs.

  • Develops criteria for Drug Utilization Evaluations, obtains medical staff input on criteria, coordinates data collection, reviews data,

  • draws conclusions

  • and makes recommendations to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and/or other appropriate committees.

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements special clinical projects as assigned.

  • Supports the development and implementation of departmental procedures as related to clinical services.

  • Performs duties of a staff pharmacist as required or needed.

  • Supports the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee's review of new medications.

  • Instructs and precepts pharmacy students as assigned. Provides clinical training for new pharmacists as assigned.

  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of

  • pharmaceuticals. Provides support for drug information provision through the pharmacy department.

  • Performs basic patient assessment duties as appropriate for scope of practice. For example, will assess patients for bruising or

  • bleeding while they are on warfarin therapy.

  • Performs other duties as requested within the scope of the job.

Qualifications:

Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in good standing in the State of Ohio.

Must maintain licensure and also maintain competencies as required by the hospital and/or pharmacy department.

Doctor of Pharmacy degree, two to four years related experience or completion of a PGY-1 residency preferred;

Board Certification required.
