Indiana University Health Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, Critical Care (Methodist Hospital) in Indianapolis, Indiana

Overview

IU Health Adult Academic Health Center is recruiting clinical pharmacy specialists to expand our services for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Units at Methodist Hospital. We are seeking individuals with PGY2 residency training in Critical Care (or equivalent patient care experience). The successful candidate is highly motivated, resourceful, and has outstanding leadership and communication skills. Team members in this position work 7-on/7-off evenings in a direct patient care role.

Methodist Hospital is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Neuroscience Center of Excellence. The emergency department sees over 100,000 annual patient visits. Pharmacists are an integral aspect of patient care at IU Health, with a strong presence and excellent relationships with physicians and nursing partners across all specialties. This pharmacist specialist will be responsible for providing and coordinating medication management in the evening and will add to the clinical pharmacy team which includes day shift and nocturnist clinical pharmacy specialists, pharmacy learners, and interns. This role routinely partners with pharmacists and technicians in operations to facilitate bedside care. The ideal candidate has experience providing pharmacist services in the dynamic and challenging environment of critical care.

Services provided by pharmacists in this position include:

  • Attending and participating in medical emergencies, including medical alerts (code blue), Stroke 1, Trauma 1, Vacular 1, STEMI alerts, ECMO cannulations, and rapid responses

    • Addressing dosing consults (including antibiotic, direct thrombin inhibitors, etc.), including dose adjustments and documentation

    • Providing clinical pharmacy services in a variety of ICU settings

    • Participating in departmental and interdisciplinary committees

    • Identifying opportunities for growth in IU Health pharmacy services

    • Developing strategies to continuously improve the quality of pharmacy services

    • Providing leadership for implementation of drug policy guidelines and protocols

    • Ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards

    • Precepting PGY1 residents, PGY2 residents, and student pharmacists

  • Doctor of Pharmacy

  • Required: PGY1 Residency

  • Required: PGY2 Residency in Critical Care or equivalent practice experience

  • Preferred: Board Certification
