U.S. Army Medical Command PHARMACIST in Fort Carson, Colorado

Summary About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a staff pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy Outpatient Section within the Evans Army Community Hospital, located on Fort Carson CO. This position is a TERM position Not to exceed 2 years. It is time-limited and may be extended beyond six years up to a maximum of eight years. Responsibilities Reviews the prescription, patient medication profile and patient record to determine appropriateness, safety and completeness of medication, authenticity of prescriber, possible drug interactions, history or likelihood of adverse reaction. Insures correct labeling, handling, storage, and dispensing. Reviews prescriptions set up by pharmacy technicians from volume or prepackaged stores. Insures proper item, quantity, and labeling before authorizing release. Insures equipment is properly set up and operated, components and additives are correctly identified, quantities computed and measured, and compounded properly performed. Participates with physicians in determining course of treatment for unusually complex or difficult cases. Advises on the use of various drugs and drug therapies, to include investigational and limited use items. Reviews efficiency of drug regimen. Advises on alternatives and cost effectiveness. Reports and documents medication errors and/or unusual occurrences. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes demonstrated experience in the preparation and dispensing of prescription pharmaceuticals. Monitoring the dispensing of pharmaceuticals in a medical treatment facility. Conducting training of professional, non-professional, and prescribing staff. Overseeing or personally performing outpatient pharmacy functions for the full range of pharmaceuticals. Reviewing the prescription, patient medication profile and patient record to determine appropriateness, safety and completeness of medication, authenticity of prescriber, possible drug interactions, history or likelihood of adverse reaction, and any special aspects or consideration in dispensing the prescribed pharmaceutical. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
