Description

Position details:

  • This position is temporary through July 2022.

  • This is a float position.

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Review and interpret prescriptions to ensure safety, efficacy and appropriateness and maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Review prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.

  2. Review and monitor drug therapy that requires dosing adjustments as authorized by the physician.

  3. Compound medications using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.

  4. Monitor all posting onto the patient profile in order that accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy and incompatibilities may be realized and better patient care received.

  5. Enter data into the computer system such as patient, prescribed medications and cost and maintains patient profiles and charge system.

  6. Check patient medication cassettes prior to delivery to patient care areas to ascertain that the correct drug, dosage form, schedule and strength are being dispensed.

  7. Answers questions and provide information to physicians, nurses, patients and other health care professionals on the appropriate use of medications, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, etc. Addresses complaints and resolves problems.

  8. Perform activities such as: medication reviews, performance improvement projects, and presentations to staff as assigned.

  9. Other duties as assigned within scope and competency of the associate.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM

  • College degree in Pharmacy

  • Current pharmacy license

  • Responsible, dependable

  • Excellent attention to detail and strives to prevent medication errors

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in presenting clinical subject matter to professional staff

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies or members of the hospital staff

  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations and data analysis

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and deal with several abstract variables

TARGET

  • College degree in Pharmacy

  • Current pharmacy license

  • Board Certified as a Pharmacy Specialist thru ACCP

  • Completed an accredited Pharmacy Residency program

  • Experience in dealing with Pharmacy Billing situations

  • Excellent attention to detail and strives to prevent medication errors

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in presenting clinical subject matter to professional staff

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies or members of the hospital staff
